The presupposition of patristic christology…

…is Origen!  While heretical at many points, his sheer genius and influence cannot be easily dismissed.   And to note a further irony, the Patristic fathers didn’t have the same aversion to Origen that we have (as de Lubac notes with painful overkill, Medieval Exegesis vol 1).  They really wanted him to be “right.”

    I know!…right? Origen is the starting point of just about all their theological discourses especially those churchmen in the east.
